Bernay Cup (Last Updated 25/03/2007)
This year's Bernay Cup took place at Lord's Hill on Bank Holiday Monday 1st May, starting at 10.30am. In spite of a dodgy forecast, the weather was kind, cheering up considerably in time for Jill's usual well-organised lunch, and giving the 20 club members who turned up a nice day's pétanque.
Hilary, Jill and Rob all went into the last (fifth) round with 4 wins, but Rob's team lost narrowly, and Hilary's and Jill's played each other, with Hilary's emerging on top, making Hilary this year's very worthy "mushroom" (her joke!). Jill retained 2nd place, but Paul G overtook Rob for 3rd on the basis of winning his fourth game in the last round, while Shane also scored 4 wins and came 5th. Richard, Bernie, Andy Robin and David P (in points order) all scored 3 wins. The format can sometimes be unkind to individuals, and Wayne played a lot better than to deserve being the only person not to win a game.
(Please note that the results have been corrected in positions 6-9 because of an error by the scorer in his additions on the day - sorry!).
