SCPC Open (Last Update 25/03/2008)
This year's Open Triples Competition was played at Lord's Hill Outdoor Recreation Centre on Sunday 10th June. We were very lucky with the weather and with the people who decided to come and support our competition, perhaps not so lucky that national events and possibly competing local ones restricted the entry to 12 teams. In fact, 17 of the 35 players were SCPC club members, with "Jorji", "Tribe" and "Amici" featuring 2 each, as well as 4 all-SCPC teams, one of which (Tim and Wayne T) playing as a pair.
Wroxall Stars from the Isle of Wight repeated their 2005 victory, winning all 6 of their games in a straightforward 6-game snake competition format. In their last game they beat Jorji (comprising Jill, Robin and John Pollinger from Shedfield), unbeaten also until then, who fittingly finished second. Shedfield also won 5 games to finish 3rd on points difference, while Tribe (Bernie, Richard and Trish Neville from Shedfield) and SCPC2 (Sam, Ron and Rob) won 4 games each and came 4th and 5th respectively. SCPC3 (Tim and Wayne T, playing as a pair) and Amici (Hilary, Gianni and Jed Stone from Limesdowne) won prizes for being the best teams scoring 2 and 1 wins, respectively.
For the first time ever, we ran a raffle, in order to give all of the entry money less the terrain hire fees back in prizes, with the raffle prizes being donated by club members, which overall made a respectable contribution to club funds for the day. Very many thanks to Hilary for organising this and the publicity and collecting the entries for the competition, Sam and Kaylee for their brilliant effort at selling the raffle tickets, Jill for helping with the draw and scoring, Jill and Robin for arranging the competition prizes, Bernie and Gianni for helping to prepare and clear up the terrain, and everyone who provided the raffle prizes and the hospitality to our visitors, including Jackie Ings and Millbrook Rugby Club for running the bar during the day!
