Competitions 2006 & 7

Ron Luxton Trophy (Last Updated 18/03/2009)

Last year's competition, scheduled for Sunday 23 April 2006, was to have taken place at Lord's Hill but had to be postponed due to inclement weather and was rained off again on Sunday 21 May 2006. We finally managed to run it on Sunday 15 April 2007!

And a very nice day it was, with wall-to-wall sunshine and temperatures more reminiscent of what June is supposed to be like (touch wood!). 19 people turned up, although Jill and Robin had to leave for a prior engagement at lunchtime; this meant that out of the 8 notional doubles, in fact we had three triples in the morning and one in the afternoon. A little unfairly, Jean and Wendy didn't manage to win a game, although they can take some satisfaction out of stopping Richard T, Wayne W and 60% of Robin from being overall winners, as they took them to 12-13. That meant that although the 2.6 musketeers won all 5 games, they lost out narrowly on points to the eventual winners, Graham and Wayne T, who had 5 wins and an impressive points difference of +42. Good efforts, too, by our two juniors; Sam, playing with Rob and (morning only) Jill was third with 3 wins, +9, and Kayleigh managed 5th place with 2 wins, -19, in spite of having to play with the President!

Ron played all day and was still fresh enough at the end to make a nice speech in presenting the trophy to Graham and Wayne!

The 2007 event was eventually abandoned, rather than keep trying to fit two competitions into one year.
